The 'Scavenger Hunt' - page2 This is just a compiled report on cpt. Brick's adventures and manipulations related to the RLBA-2 2005 Scavenge Hunt. Now, to understand everything, you'll have to read through the same briefing he got: http://www.despair.ch/campaigns/rlba/M008/index.html Starting off An excerpt of Brick's first communication on the Ops channel: "Oh great! It looks like the locals have all taken out to test the Trade Show fleet ... OK, that is good -at least for business- but I'm only left with ... huh?" A Cessna 185? "Yes, maybe you recognize that shape. That's all what Coop managed to keep hidden away." Item no.1 (first try) 13-10-2005, CYRL-CYRL -Don't fly into this camp without your paddle or you'll find yourself living the old adage "Up a creek without a paddle". Well, after reading that clue I remembered about a certain location that looked pretty much like that; so I just started up that 185 and set out to find it again. Nice weather for that time of the year, I guess: 13ºc, dry and sunny, scattered clouds well above my intended flight level and crisp visibility, 12+ nm. Took off from rwy 08, with the nose more or less in the wind, and turned a 360º to fly in an westerly direction towards Douglas lake, the said location. Upon reaching the lake I could easily spot that 'thing'; did a few passes, shot a few pics and flew back to CYRL 08 to report to the 'master mind'. Item no.2 (first try) 13-10-2005, CYRL-CYRL -To bring home the biggest catch the wise fisherman knows to ply his net where others would never try... we're not too sure about the wisdom of this particular location. About 30 minutes later ... Transcript from the usual com channel: ('B' for Brick, 'C' for Coop) B- Yoh, Coop! C- Back already, boss? Fancy a smocko? B- Sure. Any news so far? C- Yup, got a phone call from this czech guy coming in with an 'Ibis' or something like that, pinch me. You know something 'bout that? B- Oh? Cute! Brightens up my day. What's his ETA? C- 2 hours and 30 minutes, he said and he mentioned he's got a pile a paperwork ... B- Dang! I hate that stuff!. Hmmm Coop; d'ya have a cookie with that cup? ... and what else? Do I take that 185 'flea' again or is there something else available? C- With raisins will do? Yep, one of the locals just brought back the Do28B ... By the way, he was muttering something about it, like being 'odd, old and noisy' B- Yummy! OK, talking about himself, I guess ... flipping ignorant! Coop, if you happen to run into him again just tell him I can fly him in and out of his kiddies' inflatable pool in the backyard if asked. The bugger just lacks feeling and knowledge on old Do ... ... and could you just fill her up; I might want to go and have a try at 'item no. 2' C- My thoughts too Bricky; looked to me like a brainless leather jacket ... he even mistook me for 'just a mechanic' #@$&! No worries, mate; full fuel, no cargo in a fiver B- Beaut! lemme just place a call to Trollo for the sake o' checking ... So there I go again, flying out from CYRL 08 in a -beep- direction to another location that I happened to remember and thought fitted well the clue. Same great weather; a quick and direct flight, a few passes shooting pics and ... back to CYRL. Now, after returning to CYRL and reporting on the Ops channel, I was kindly reminded by sires Troll and Hak about the rule to land at the item's location and taking a picture that shows both my plane and the item close together ... Oops! Guess I'll have to go out and do it again, right? Not only that, but the also sir Troll -our 'master mind' for this event- mentioned that 'my' item no.1 is not 'the' item but more like an odd 'undocumented scenery anomaly' or maybe even kind of a practical joke or smoke curtain ... a number of locals that launched a houseboat. > go to next page (not available yet) < back to RLBA-2 index |
